Technical Information Library analyses literature with Averbis Software
Freiburg i. Breisgau – 5 December 2011. The Technical Information Library (TIB) in Hannover will in the future automatically tap into digitally delivered meta data on expertise articles with the Averbis Extraction Platform. The software automatically classifies periodical and conference articles according to the topics relevant for the TIB, allowing users to not only research according to author, title or year of publication, but for the first time it enables them to filter articles specifically according to the desired field of expertise.
The world’s largest specialized library for Technology, Architecture, Chemistry, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics processes for example literature data sets of publications of the Springer Publishing House, the British Library and from the library’s own catalogue. Further sources are to be added in the future. Due to a very large amount of data, the documents could not always able to be assigned to the individual areas of expertise. The new software now automates the classification of the literature data entirely – particularly with minimal content of the metadata. The Averbis Extraction Platform has already successfully classified approx. one million digital data sets in the current project phase. The software is to be productively implemented at the beginning of 2012.

‘Averbis is constantly accessing new fields. The modular structure of the Averbis Extraction Platform fulfills our expectations exactly. The possibility of now filtering articles according to topic as the result of a fully automated analysis significantly increases the quality of our GetInfo portals’, explains Dr. Irina Sens, Associate Director of the TIB.
In addition to the categorization of literature data seta, the indexing platform also enables contextual indexing. The key word norm file (SWD) of the German National Library delivers the uniform basis for this, for which the inter-lingual assignment of German key words for English language texts is also an option.
